Fish Oils are rich in Omega 3 Essential Fatty acids. The body cannot manufacture Omega-3 fatty acids and must obtain them from food sources. The most important types of Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil are Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The body needs Eicosapentaenoic acid to produce prostaglandins, which are hormone-like substances that help to protect the heart and cell membranes.
Docosahexaenoic acid is required for the normal development of the brain, the eyes, and the reproductive system. The fish originate from the clean open waters of the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. Fish oils are extracted from the tissues (flesh) of fatty fish like salmon and herring, mackerel, sardines and anchovies. Oil is obtained by the wet from fish reduction process. It is then refined and deodorised by classical edible oil processing techniques. The refining process uses phosphoric acid and sodium hydroxide, neither of which are present in the finished product.
