Burns

All Burns require some form of First Aid

Home and office are two places that are often taken lightly in terms of safety. We work in the kitchen and in a work place enviroment but often overlook the danger of getting burnt or burns. Burns can happen due to improper handling of gas, oil and fire at home and smoking, acids, welding at work places. These were just examples and in actual a lot of reasons can contribute to the “burn”.

Burn is a sensation on skin that will cause cell and tissue damage. 99% there will be cell death and will be characterized by blisters or burnt dark skin. Depending on the degree of burns people can recover or die. A tap on the head, this is a serious danger that we often face and overlook it. A safer practice should be followed.

There are three types of burns that are classified:

  • First degree: red and non-blistered skin.
  • Second degree: blister with slight thickening of skin.
  • Third degree: widespread and deep burn.

All kinds of burns will lead to skin and tissue damage. At extremes, burns can lead to shock and death. Burns might come to anyone anytime without prior notice. The event is short lived but the after effects are what we should watch out for. It is always safer to be safe while working with any kind of hot items. This will reduce the probability of any incident. Coming to treatment first degree and second degree can be temporally/permanently cured by using burn ointments or creams. The ointments and creams contain tissue healing ingredients apart from having cooling effect on the applied area. Also, few of the home remedies might temporarily contain the burn and replace the burn ointments or creams. Such an e.g. is turmeric, tooth paste or rice flour. These household things can save the skin from getting burnt to a larger extent.

Use a Burn Cream for minor Treatment

For third degree burns and extreme cases there are surgeries done to recover the burnt skin back. The treatment is known as skin grafting and cosmetic surgery. Cooking injuries will sometimes result in small burns. These can be handled by using burn ointments and creams that are readily available in a health food store. An available stock of these creams and ointments should be an integral part of the first aid box.
Burns can occur any time. One should be prepared and not panic, rather take precautionary measures immediately to prevent severe damage.
