For prescribed medications used to treat an illness or malady, it can be a little bit trickier and your best option is to talk to your doctor about how these medications may affect your memory and concentration, and discuss alternatives.

Another common factor effecting memory and concentration is sleep – are you getting enough, and is it quality sleep? Being tired effects your overall quality of life, but if you are not getting enough sleep, or the sleep you do get is interrupted, poor, or not restful due to a sleep disorder, you will experience significantly more trouble with memory and concentration. If you suffer from a sleep disorder, such as sleep apnea, your doctor may be able to provide treatment or aid in getting adequate sleep, which would in turn improve your memory and concentration. On the other hand, if you’re simply not allowing yourself enough time to sleep, make that a priority and you’ll find the quality of your mental state improves tremendously.

Eat Right to Boost Memory and Concentration

Nutrition is a third common factor that can affect your memory and concentration negatively. Nutritional deficiencies, particularly in B vitamins, can seriously impact your mood, memory and concentration. If you aren’t using any type of medication or other substance and your sleep is adequate, evaluate your nutritional intake and consider adding B supplements to your diet, or changing how you’re eating to include more vitamin rich foods. By evaluating these three common factors that affect memory and consulting with your doctor, you will be able to adjust your life style to improve your memory and concentration.
